New Blog

....today I received a call to companion a family who had been given news by his doctor that was expected; albeit, news that took the breathe out of the receiver.  Reality is so damn hard.... especially when the life is cut short in numbers.

The family was open to discuss the journey and through tears the love in the room was undeniable. The wife and one daughter were present in the room and after some time were able to share the husband and fathers skills in cooking.  He looked proud about this legacy he is leaving behind.  He shared that he has written the recipes out for his family.  He shared that he came from a large family and was used to seeing his mother bake many loaves of bread along with sweets weekly.

This fellow shared how he doesn’t think there is a GOD, as GOD would not have been able to create man and this world all by himself.  He did share that he believes in life after death as he feels the universe does not end….  The family has taken care of the paperwork for the end of life, they have had one year to consider all the needs of this reality. The one thing he was hopeful about was to get some money from the OAS plan even though he is not there yet!  His wife stated she was looking into this.

Dr Wolfelt teaches that death does not end a relationship but that to “love” someone they live on in the remembers lives and hearts forever.  The new normal is never easy and it is a process to be sure.
